§13.3 · CAPABILITY · 4 MIN READ · EDITION 1.0
Dependency on an external AI service
Where a quality process depends on an externally hosted model or service, the organisation should know what happens to that process if the service changes, degrades or becomes unavailable — before it happens, not after.
An externally hosted capability can change behaviour, pricing, availability or terms on a schedule the organisation does not control; treat that dependency the same way a single-source supplier dependency is treated in a normal supply-chain risk review.
A durable process keeps the manual fallback it replaced documented and exercisable, and names who decides to invoke it, so a service outage or a material behaviour change does not stall the quality process it supports.
PUT THIS INTO PRACTICE
- 01Document the manual fallback for every externally dependent AI-supported step.
- 02Review service terms and change notices on a defined cadence.
- 03Name who decides to invoke the fallback and under what condition.
