AI fundamentals for quality professionals
Quality teams do not need to become data scientists. They need to recognise what a method is good at, how it fails and how to control the task.
Language models generate plausible text from the information provided; fluency is not evidence of correctness. Context is limited, and a decision about what evidence is retrieved has major influence on the result.
Traditional software is deterministic. AI can be probabilistic, so the relevant controls are task-level performance, coverage, missed findings, false findings, traceability and human acceptance rather than byte-for-byte matching.
PUT THIS INTO PRACTICE
- 01Use deterministic rules where a deterministic rule fits.
- 02Record the source and exact location behind each finding.
- 03Measure missed and false findings on known cases.
